Kathryn Eileen Berkey, 89, a life long resident on Silvercreek Road, Wadsworth, Township, died January 3, 2011. Born on February 27, 1921 to Mamie (Lucas) and Lewis Thomas she was the youngest of 6 children and their only daughter. She lived her entire life on the land she loved which was settled by her family over 150 years ago. She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Clark Berkey, her daughter Anne, her 5 brothers Willard, Harold, Wayne, Glenn and Leonard. She is survived by daughters Susan and son-in-law Carroll Vanik of Carefree, Arizona, Patricia Eileen Berkey, her beloved and only grandson Lukas Kyle Berkey as well as nieces Joan (Thomas) Kime of Rittman and Marjorie (Thomas) Wickeiser of Wadsworth, many nieces, nephews as well as her best friend since 2nd grade Mary Evelyn Buffington.
Upon graduation from Wadsworth High School she worked at the Ohio Match Company where she made many life long friendships. She was a life member of Emanuel Church of Christ ("High Church") of Doylestown and maintained membership in the VFW Women's Auxiliary.
The family will receive friends 2-4 & 6-8 Pm Friday at the Hilliard-Rospert Funeral Home, 174 N. Lyman St. Wadsworth. Funeral services will be conducted at Emanuel United Church of Christ, 16 Eastern Road, Doylestown, OH on Saturday, January 8, at 3:00PM. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.
