Gladys M. True, 96, of Wadsworth passed away peacefully April 26, 2010 surrounded by loved ones after suffering from hip surgery. She was born May 26, 1913 in Akron, OH to the late John and Minnie Hoy.
She worked as a sales consultant at Polsky's in Akron and at Diamonds in Phoenix, AZ, and later retired in Women's Better Dresses. She was a resident of Phoenix for 44 years, spending the last 3 in Wadsworth, OH. She loved sewing, crocheting, and reading.
She is best known for her community involvement as a member of the Women of the Moose in Akron, OH #918, Louisville, KY #05, and Phoenix, AZ #1299. She joined January 1, 1939 in Akron, OH and received several honors for her service, including; Academy of Friendship Degree in 1946, College of Regents Degree in 1950, Star Recorder Degree in 1967, a member of the 25 Club, a member of the 50 Year Club, was on the International College of Regents Board from 1970-1972, President of the College of Regents Board from 1973-1974, and on the International Grand Council Board from 1977-1979. She traveled the U.S. to install chapters, was active in Mooseheart, and was most proud to have started the "Glee Club" at the Akron Moose in 1939. "Women of the Moose" Past Grand Council Member; 1977-1978 and 1978-1979.
She will always be remembered for her great sense of humor and the ability to adjust to any circumstance.
Preceded in death by her husband Carl Cecil True, daughter Virginia, son Richard A. True, sister Dorothy Milford, and grandson Eric Stein.
Surviving are her sons Donald (Yvonne) and Kenneth (Sandra), daughter-in-law Carol True, grandchildren; David, Denise (Terry) Mitchell, and Dennis (Monica), Carl (Linda), Holly (Sam) Verrett, and Dick Jr., and Mike (Julie), Lori, Cris (Allan) Emerson, Mark (Christinia), Jeanne (Troy) Perry, and Kristi (Duane) Lockhart, 32 great grandchildren, 9 great great grandchildren, sister-in-law Phyllis, and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by many wonderful friends, neighbors, and special grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted 10:00 AM Saturday at Trinity United Church of Christ, 215 High St. Wadsworth, OH with Rev. Daniel Doty and Rev. Gary True officiating, where the family will receive friends 5-8 PM Friday and one hour prior to services from 9-10 AM Saturday. Interment Copley Cemetery.
